Sheet Metal Mechanic
Job Description
- The Sheet Metal Mechanic must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to lay out, fabricate, assemble, modify, repair, and install sheet metal products.
The following is a list of typical work that a Sheet Metal Mechanic might be asked to perform:
- Employ appropriate trade methods to lay out flat forms to be worked to form required three-dimensional shapes from written and verbal instructions.
- Assemble, modify, install and repair various sections into sheet metal products such as shipboard ventilation systems, housings, shields, metal partitions, metal furniture and doors, galley equipment, strainers, stowage bins and a variety of special custom-made small parts peculiar to ship repair work.
- Utilize the full array of metal working machines and measures with various precision instruments as required.
- Assure that a Work Authorization Form (WAF) ticket is on the job site and that it is for the specific job being accomplished, no work will be accomplished without a WAF posted at location of repairs
- Must have the basic understanding of mechanical drawings, layout, assemble, install and repair sheet metal products related to Shipboard construction HVAC and Habitability
- Must have the knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
- Must have the ability to assist in the assemble of ventilation runs in accordance with drawings, spec’s and meet Navy shipboard standard detail requirements.
- Must have a basic knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of MJB, MJ doors, Berthing’s, Galley’s and Office outfitting
Sheet Metal Mechanic Requirements
- Must have minimum 3 years of experience working on ships
- Must have dependable transportation.
- Access to local bases.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screen
- OSHA 10 Maritime Certification
- Fire Watch Certification
