We currently have an exciting opportunity for experienced Structural Welders (J4) to join our Steel Shop team in Norfolk, Virginia. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in welding across various base metals and processes, with the ability to deliver high-quality work under shipyard and industrial standards.
Job Title: Journeyperson Welder (J4) – Structural (Aluminum Certified)
Location: Norfolk, Virginia
Shift: 5:00 AM – 1:45 PM (45-minute lunch)
Positions Available: 6
Key Responsibilities

Perform structural welding on a variety of base metals including HY-80 & HY-100.

Utilize SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes proficiently.

Produce welds that meet standards acceptable for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

Weld across multiple materials: steel, aluminum, copper-nickel, and stainless steel.

Read and interpret weld gauges, ensuring precision and compliance.

Safely operate hand tools and maintain a clean, organized work environment in line with 5S principles.

Follow Standard Item 1689 guidelines and comply with all quality and safety requirements.

Work under supervision while demonstrating independent problem-solving skills when required.
Qualifications

Journeyperson 4 (Welder) level or equivalent experience.

Aluminum welding certification required.

Demonstrated ability to weld on various base metals with appropriate wire and gas combinations.

Familiarity with shipyard standards and NDT acceptance criteria.

Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to work with minimal guidance.
