HDD Telecommunications Operator (Travel – Projects in OK/NM/NV)

Looking for more than just another operator job?

We’re hiring HDD Operators to travel with our crews on projects in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Nevada. You’ll run mini-excavators, trenchers, plows, and more to help install and maintain fiber, copper, and coax. Lodging and per diem are provided—bring your equipment skills, and we’ll handle the rest.


What You’ll Do

As an Operator, you’ll be responsible for safely and efficiently handling heavy equipment while supporting the crew in placing and maintaining client facilities.

Daily Responsibilities:

  • Review blueprints or project plans to determine installation requirements.

  • Analyze job sites for utilities, permits, and traffic control needs.

  • Read and understand utility locations and above-ground indicators to keep crews safe.

  • Complete daily inspections of vehicles, trailers, and equipment.

  • Perform service, safety checks, and minor repairs (oil, fluids, etc.).

  • Operate heavy equipment (excavators, trenchers, plows, etc.) for construction tasks.

  • Perform general construction duties such as digging holes, setting handholes/peds, and placing duct to poles.

  • Maintain quality and cleanliness of tools, vehicles, and equipment.

  • Ensure all work meets safety and quality standards (EPC/OSHA/ANSI).

  • Strive for efficiency, productivity, and safety on every job.


What Will Help You Stand Out

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

  • At least 1 year of heavy equipment operating experience (excavator, skid steer, track hoe, etc.).

  • Ability to read and follow prints.

  • Working knowledge of telecommunications preferred.

  • Comfortable operating both heavy equipment and hand/power tools.

  • Prior experience spotting hazards above and below ground.

  • Strong communication skills and ability to follow direction.

  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting equipment.

  • Proven track record of working safely and efficiently.


What to Expect

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, mud, etc.).

  • Physical work including standing, bending, lifting (up to 80 lbs).

  • Frequent travel to job sites; overnight stays of 2+ consecutive weeks may be required.

  • Must pass a background check, drug screen, and other pre-hire screenings.
