Join Nationwide Skilled Trades, a family-owned shipyard staffing agency that has been serving Hampton Roads for over 30 years. We are currently hiring Sheet Metal Workers for our customer in Norfolk, VA.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to gain access to military installations.
- Must pass a drug test and background check.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED.
- 3+ years Shipyard experience Sheet Metal Mechanic with a background in Marine HVAC/ Structural Experience.
- Knowledge/Skill: Sheet Metal Mechanic with a background in Marine HVAC/ Structural Experience.
- The Sheet Metal Mechanic must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to lay out, fabricate, assemble, modify, repair, and install sheet metal products.
- Must be U.S. Citizen.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings, layout, fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal products related to shipboard construction HVAC and habitability and have an excellent knowledge of the various types of metals and sizes.
- Excellent knowledge of Habitability layout and installation of metal joiner (MJ) bulkheads, MJ doors, berths, galleys, and office outfitting.
- Operate press brake, hand brake, power rollers, hand rollers, general sheet metal fabrication equipment.
- Write WAFs and hot work tickets and perform trade quality assurance work, with little to no supervision. Employ appropriate trade methods to lay out flat forms to be worked to form required three-dimensional shapes from written and verbal instructions.
- Assemble, modify, install, and repair various sections into sheet metal products such as shipboard ventilation systems, housings, shields, metal partitions, metal furniture and doors, galley equipment, strainers, stowage bins, and a variety of special custom-made small parts peculiar to ship repair work.
- Utilize the full array of metal working machines and measure with various precision instruments as required.
- Coordinate and arrange for the work of several trades in connection with performing work from information received from technical work documents, blueprints, specifications, and written and/or oral instructions.
